Castlebar's premier walking festival attracts walkers from all over the world. The festival takes place during the first week in July.
It was first established in 1967 and has grown ever since.
There are 10km,20km and 40km walks and rambles to be enjoyed. The festival is open to all ages form the age of 11 and all the ways upwards! The walks takes to places all around Castlebar and beyond.

From Ballintubber runs the old pilgrim road to Croagh Patrick, some 22 miles away. The road is known as Tochar Phadraig, after Ireland's patron saint. This is a majestic mountain that can be seen for miles around. tThe climb will take 4 hours as it reaches a height  of 2654 feet. The entrance up to the mountains is at Purglish forest and you can park your car here. The mountain may be difficult for some climbers as most of the summit is made up of scree and rocky bolders.
